The Waypoints tool lets you add markers to your GPX files to highlight important locations, points of interest, and landmarks along your routes.
Waypoints and Points of Interest are often confused. A “point of interest” is an application-level interpretation of the GPX standard, not a GPX-level object. When you create a Waypoint in the Rendzo App, a GPX <wpt> element is created. We have intentionally named the tool Waypoints to avoid confusion with the Map Layers that show POIs (from external sources) on the map. See Map Controls for more information about map overlays.

Getting Started

To use the Waypoints tool:
  1. Select a file from your File Tree
  2. Click the waypoint icon in the left toolbar
  3. Click on the map to place a waypoint, or paste coordinates

Creating a Waypoint

Click to Place

With the tool active, simply click anywhere on the map to set the waypoint location. A preview marker will appear showing where your waypoint will be created.

Paste Coordinates

You can also paste coordinates directly into the tool. Supported formats include:
  • Decimal: 30.278003, -97.751742
  • DMS (Degrees, Minutes, Seconds): 30°17'40.2"N 97°48'10.8"W
  • Google Maps URL: Paste a Google Maps link containing @lat,lng
After pasting, click the paste button or press Enter to set the location.

Waypoint Properties

Basic Information

  • Name - A title for your waypoint
  • Description - Additional details about the location
  • Link - An optional URL associated with the waypoint

Location

  • Latitude/Longitude - The exact coordinates (can be edited manually)
  • Relocate - Click this button, then click on the map to move the waypoint to a new location
  • Address Lookup - Automatically fetch the street address for the current coordinates
  • Center - Fly the map to center on this waypoint
After looking up an address, you can copy it to your clipboard or open Google Street View at that location.

Tags

For saved waypoints, you can assign tags to help organize and categorize your locations. Tags make it easy to filter and find related waypoints across your files.

Styling Your Waypoint

The Waypoints tool offers two display modes for customizing how your markers appear on the map.

Icon Mode

Display your waypoint as a colored pin with an optional icon:
  • Icon - Choose from dozens of symbols (restaurant, hotel, parking, scenic view, etc.) or use the default pin
  • Size - Adjust the marker size from 10 to 100 pixels
  • Fill Color - Set the main color of the pin
  • Outline Color - Set the border/stroke color
  • Outline Width - Choose None, Thin, or Thick border
Use the search field in the icon picker to quickly find symbols by name.

Image Mode

Display your waypoint as a photo thumbnail on the map:
  • Shape - Choose between circle or square thumbnail
  • Size - Adjust the image size from 10 to 100 pixels
  • Cover Photo - Select which attached photo to display as the marker
In image mode, you can:
  • Upload new photos directly to the waypoint
  • Select any attached image as the cover photo
  • The first uploaded image is automatically set as the cover
You must save the waypoint before you can attach media in image mode.

Editing Waypoints

To edit an existing waypoint:
  1. Enable the File Tree view (Cmd+L / Ctrl+L)
  2. Expand a file to see its waypoints
  3. Click on a waypoint to select it
  4. The Waypoints tool will load the waypoint’s current properties
  5. Make your changes and click Save
You can also click directly on a waypoint marker on the map while the Waypoints tool is active to select it for editing.

Moving a Waypoint

There are three ways to relocate a waypoint:
  1. Drag - Click and drag the waypoint marker on the map
  2. Relocate button - Click the relocate button, then click the new location on the map
  3. Edit coordinates - Manually change the latitude/longitude values
When you move a waypoint, any previously looked-up address is automatically cleared since it no longer applies to the new location.

Deleting Waypoints

To delete a waypoint:
  1. Select the waypoint in the File Tree
  2. Use Edit > Move to Trash or right-click and select “Move to Trash”

Tips

  • Waypoints are stored in the GPX file and will sync across your devices
  • Style settings can be set as defaults in Settings > Defaults
  • Use the View > Waypoints toggle to show/hide all waypoints on the map
  • Waypoints support undo/redo for all changes
